Let it out, let it out fill the empty space so insecure find the words and let it out staring down, staring down nothing comes to mind find the place turn the water into wine but I feel I’m getting nowhere and I’ll never see the end so I wither and render myself helpless I give in and everything is clear I break down and let the story guide me turn it on, turn it on let the feelings flow close your eyes see the ones you used to know open up, open up don’t struggle to relate lure it out help …

People really crack me up at times, especially when someone refers to a song as being to commercial. All songs created by musicians are commerial, otherwise, you’d never had the opportunity to even listen to it to begin with… Besides, this is how musicians make a living. Get used to it and if you don’t like there music, then listen not.

COme on all. THis song is not commercial. Anyways, the lyrics as written by Petrucci are about his writers block….Listen people ..listen

2:55 The piano part is almost the same as Zelda’s Lullaby from The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time. XD

Great song and greates images!!! thanks!!

Probably the best song they have written in years. I know the metal folks will scream, and don’t get me wrong, I love their heavy stuff but that seems so easy for them now. It takes some talent to write a catchy tune like this. I felt they were moving forward with Octavarium but took a step back on Systematic Chaos to please their core fans. This song sounds like it could have been on Octavarium.

You…just replied to yourself, didn’t you?

that’s so true

images and words, awake, octavarium…
oh shoot! so hard to choose!

I can definitely relate to that, mate.
I used to be as hard core a DT fan as you can possibly find, before they took a turn towards a much heavier sound on 6doit-cd1 (and somewhat bleaker themes in their lyrics).
Which, to me, this being metal music at the end of the day, means trying to please the fan base (i.e. chasing easy commercial success) a lot more that writing a song like this one here. And yes, Octavarium is the only post-SFAM album I can say I liked – mostly due to the title track.

best band ever

That is why Dream Theater is the best, because they can write Scenes, Octavarium and throw songs like Wither in there…it is called being well-rounded. A real DT fan does not let their passion wane because every album is not Images and Words…this is the natural progression of their career…I’m sorry if you can’t appreciate that. I’m sure you’d be hard-pressed to tell me who is making better music nowadays…not a single band comes to mind. DT is the standard while others are a reflection.

In defense of what you said…I also feel that some of DT’s themes have become a little bleak, but in the overall picture of their career…I believe their theme as a group as a whole is so much stronger than just a few songs that are out of place like “Forsaken”.

This is basically a pop rock song. I want SFAM back!

This song could easily fit in a new moon type of movie

I’m addicted to the sound and verses of this song! Brings me back to one of my favo DT albums ‘Awake’ (‘Lifting Shadows’). Save but great DT album!

i agree with that one, theres only certain people who actually appreciate dream theater propperly and thats because dream theater they range from every style of music, the true dream theater fans, are the people who understand and appreciate music the most.

Their metal songs are good and very advanced and amazing. But I also like this more. There best album though is Scenes from a Memory by far. Octavarium is to simple, no key or time signature changes.
October 31st, 2009 at 18:42
There are actually 8 key changes in between songs hence the name Octavarium…but in my honest opinion from what Dream Theater has done on the last two albums…I honestly believe they will produce another album like a Scenes From A Memory on their next go…they move in circles…this was kind of an Images and Words/Change of Seasons reflection. I bet the next album will be mega-prog. We’ll see! Happy Halloween.

Please never ever call yourself a Dream Theater fan. We are ashamed of you.

LOL i know!! it`s not a good example, i wanted to state that since it`s a Pop Rock it song could easily fit in the mainstream audience, anyway, i never said i was a Dream Theater fan, i love music and i love great music, i love DT`s music but considering myself a “fan” of a band ?? I don`t think so, thats for twitts.
