Many of these boards distinguished themselves with ANSI art, an early form of electronic cave paintings. ANSI was an extension to the even earlier form of caveman communication known as ASCII used in MS-DOS based computers. It is with great pleasure that we happened upon the San Francisco hacker art gallery “20 goto 10? where an ANSI art exhibition was in progress …

acid, ice, what were some of the other groups? remember boards that u had to be ‘elite’ and name all the acronyms to get in? or have references? lulz, elitism will never go away, people are monkeys.. i was never good at ansi but i tried for hours and hours.. i was better @ ascii eventually but have never been that artistic.. but it was fun being part of something back then anyway

awesome. i used to do ANSi art back in the day and was into the BBS scene. i miss it a lot, the internet caused the downfall of it in the long run.

Don’t tell me he’s actually selling ansi art that he didn’t create himself and didn’t buy the rights for. That’s f***ed up!! I’m only a little relieved because I know my ansis weren’t good enough to make the cut for this exhibition, but if he is selling other artists’ work without paying them, that’s worse than anything rad man has ever done to the scene.

this is very badass. it would be better if the hostess was murdered on camera, though.

The fascinating point is they had to be actually type out their creative ideas.
The frustrating point is that while technology gets BETTER, people get DUMBER.
Or maybe it just enables dumber people to voice their opinions, because back then, when you had to actually type down a picture in octal the random idiot that needs a “break” if he needs to think about something simple couldnt find out how to plug in the modem.
